The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has finally revealed the launch for the upcoming Mi 5. Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang revealed via his Weibo account that the device will be launched on February 24. The post also offers some details of the Mi 5 briefing event in China.
Xiaomi Mi 5 to be available within a week after February announcement, Liwan Jiang confirmed the news as well. There have been plenty of rumors about Xiaomi’s Mi 5 smartphone. According to a report from mydrivers, Xiaomi at the launch will reveal not one but two Mi 5 smartphones.
The Chinese company will be organising a spring conference on 24th February, where it is expected to officially launch the smartphone.
According to earlier leaks, Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.5-inch screen with 2 K (1440 x 2560P) resolutions and will run on the recently-launched 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. Said to be available in 16, 64 and 128GB storage options, the smartphone will have 4GB of RAM. Xiaomi will reportedly use Android 5.1-based MIUI 6 in Mi 5. The smartphone will also have a 20MP rear camera and 8MP front snapper. The 4G-capable top-end handset will feature a 3,800mAh battery and come in black and white color options.
While there have been plenty of rumors about the first model (shown in the image above) that is expected to sport a Full HD display and curved 3D-glass back. There is a second model that is said to sport a similar design but packing an all-metal construction with a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) display.
Other upgrades that owners of the premium Mi 5 will be treated to include more RAM and better storage options. The premium variant of the Mi 5 is rumored to include 4GB of RAM, which is up from the expected 3GB on the standard version; and 64GB of internal storage compared to the 32GB base version onboard the standard Mi 5. The rest of hardware details including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset are expected to remain the same.
