A new teaser released by Xiaomi indicates that the Xiaomi Redmi 3 smartphone will be announced on Jan. 12. The handset will be launched to replace the Xiaomi Redmi 2 that was released in August 2015.
Xiaomi is expected to launch another smartphone, as early as next week! In a Weibo post, the company teased an image, which shows the back side of a smartphone, sporting a metal panel. Xiaomi also stated that the smartphone will sport a 5-inch display. However, no other specifications were shared. The device will most likely launch on 12 January.
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 was last week sported on TENAA, offering a brief look at the smartphone. In terms of rumored specifications, the device features a 5-inch HD resolution TFT display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. It will be powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core processor paired with 2GB RAM. It will mostly feature an internal storage of 16GB, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot. The smartphone is expected to pack in a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera and boot to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with the MIUI V7 skinning on top.
The post on the company’s Weibo account also mentions that the smartphone will have a 5-inch display and a redesigned metal body. The previous Xiaomi Redmi models – namely Redmi 1S, 2 and 2 Prime – have had 4.7-inch displays and plastic construction.
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 will be a dual-SIM smartphone that will carry support for 4G LTE connectivity. The smartphone is expected to sport a thickness of 8.5 mm. Like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the Redmi 3 will be packed with a massive battery of 4000 mAh battery, rumors say the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 616 SoC,
Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Mi 5 smartphone next month. Xiaomi’s co-founder and senior VP Liwan Jiang took to Weibo to confirm that the Mi5 will indeed come with Snapdragon 820 and has entered mass production as well. He also stated that the company will launch the Mi5 after the Chinese New Year which begins on February 8.
