Google Maps for iOS Update Finally have Spoken Traffic Alerts

Google Maps Navigation makes getting to places easier. It tells you live traffic conditions, where to turn, which lane to use, and if there’s a better route. If you use Google Maps on your iPhone device, head to the App Store and download the latest update, version 4.12.0 (if you don’t have it already). The latest release brings parity with the Android version by introducing spoken traffic alerts, a small but sometimes extremely helpful feature for motorists.

Google, The search giant has updated its Maps application for iOS with a new feature, which aims to make driving easy by staying updated with traffic information without looking at the map every time.

The update for Google Maps for iOS v4.12.0 would now speak traffic alerts under the Navigation section, like Android. The app would tell the driver about congestion and incidents in the route and the traffic description would give them summary of traffic on the route before starting. The update also brings the ability for users to easily add new and missing businesses right from the sidebar. The latest version of Google Maps for iOS is available to download. This update was crucial and most awaited.

This refined yet highly useful feature has been available to Android device owners for the past couple of months, and now that same courtesy extends to iOS. It’s also one of the most popular features in Waze, a mapping application that Google bought in 2013 for a cool $1.3 billion. However, the two apps go about things a little differently — Waze relies on a community of drivers to provide traffic updates, whereas Google Maps will tap both users of the app and traffic services for accuracy.Google Maps for iOS Update Finally have Spoken Traffic Alerts

It will be interesting to see if Google ends up combining Waze and Google Maps at some point or if it continues to update them separately, as it’s been doing. That includes a recent major update to Waze, now in version 4.0, which introduced a new design and improvements to battery life.

As for Google Maps, the latest version also introduces the ability to add new and missing businesses from the sidebar, and includes several “bug fixes,” according to Google’s description of what’s new. Indeed, a user who is logged into the app can easily add a new business from the sidebar.

In addition Google also updated a notification feature to its Google Drive cloud storage applications for both Android and iOS. Both OS users would now get notifications when a file has been shared with them. The notification alert also gives a link to directly access the particular folder where the shared file is saved. The notifications would also let the file or folder owner know when someone requests access to the content. The option to deactivate the notifications feature would also be present under the Settings option.
